David Doak seems to be most recognizable by a cameo he made in the first game he ever worked on — GoldenEye 007.
He joined me on today’s episode to discuss a career that began as tech support for Rare and left us with cult classics including the TimeSplitters series.
We discuss how arguably the most played multiplayer first person shooter on the Nintendo 64 underwent major challengers during development, why he left Rare and started his own studio, and what he is up to now.
I had a blast chatting with David and he offers a lot of insight on the challenges of moving from an established studio to an independent one, including publishing woes.
